Navy PEB Brings Back the IPEB Recon Process
At the end of October, the Navy formalized a process in which service members and their counsel may submit an IPEB reconsideration request to the President of the PEB after they request a formal hearing. This request is now called a President-directed IPEB Recon Request. An IPEB Reconsideration Request consists of a written brief with supporting evidence showing either why the initial decision in your case was wrong or providing new evidence that demonstrates good cause for giving the case a second look. When the President of the PEB determines that you have met that burden of proof, your case will be submitted to a new IPEB for review and the issuance of an updated decision. This is an excellent opportunity for service members and counsel to have a “second bite at the apple” before going to a formal hearing in the Navy system. I have attached the policy letter and guidance regarding this process below for your convenience.
