Major Navy PEB Policy Change

​On 1 Oct 17, the Navy PEB system will no longer process formal reconsideration requests submitted by counsel.  These “formal recons” were essentially a pre-hearing brief outlining what you were seeking as an outcome and the evidence that supported this request.   The brief was accompanied by the exhibits that your counsel intended to use during the case. If the board members agreed with your contentions, the case could be decided on the record without you having to travel to the Washington Navy Yard and present your case.  Ending this practice is not a wise move, as it saved the service money, reduced the administrative workload of the board members and provided service members with the opportunity to resolve their disability claims without having to go through a formal hearing. Hopefully the Council of Review Boards revisits this decision at some future date, as it is neither in the best interests of service members or the Navy.
